Casino welcome bonus: the spins are the half of the package expected to survive

€9.60

Expected return on 100 free spins attached to a first payment where the spin winnings are paid without any staking asked. The spins are worth €0.10 each, so €10.00 goes through the reels and 96 per cent of it is expected back. Nothing else in such a package is expected to remain. Taken from the terms these cashiers publish, read October 2026.

Scroll the rack sideways to reach the other columns. The label column stays put.

Not one of the offers printed above holds a Great Britain licence. Outside that licence a British player has none of its protection: Gamstop Online cannot shut the door, the ten-times limit on bonus wagering does not bind the operator, and no British complaints body will take up a dispute. You must be 18 or over to open an account anywhere in this rack.

Every figure in the rack is a term the operator itself publishes, read on 14 October 2026. The operator's terms in full are the ones that bind you.

The cash half of the first payment, in pounds per pound

What these offers ask Under a British licence
You put in €20.00 €20.00
Handed over €30.00 €30.00
Wagering 35x 10x
Cost per £1 kept None survives €0.67

The cash half only, at a payback of 96 per cent, with all rounds counted at face value. A package of this sort may price itself in euros and the press does not convert, so the comparison applies the British multiple to the same euro figures rather than inventing a rate. Thirty-five times €30.00 is €1,050.00 of staking, costing €42.00 against credit worth €30.00, so the credit runs out first and there is no surviving euro to price. At ten times the obligation is €300.00, the cost €12.00 and €18.00 survives. A Great Britain licence is what fixes ten, and these cashiers do not carry one. The spins half sits outside this table and is worked out in part seven.

01

The first payment hands over two different things

€30.00 of cash and 100 free spins is what €20 buys at the most generous first payment above. The two halves are priced apart because they are governed apart, and only one of them is expected to leave the account as money.

The cash half carries 35 times itself in staking. The spins at that same cashier carry none on their winnings, which the terms state outright. That single clause is worth more than any percentage printed on the front of the offer.

So the figure to take from a welcome package is not the headline and not even the match rate. It is the proportion of what is handed over that arrives without a counter attached to it. Here that proportion is the spins, and the spins alone.

The rates themselves are taken apart one at a time in 100% deposit bonus and 200% deposit bonus, with the stacked headlines at 300% deposit bonus. The unit all of them resolve into is set out in matched money.

02

Spins without a counter are rare and they are the thing to look for

Few offers pay spin winnings clean. Most run their full multiple across spin winnings and cash alike, so a win on a free spin arrives as an obligation rather than as a balance.

What happens to a free spin win at offers of this kind, with the counter each carries. Terms read October 2026
Package Spins on the first payment Counter on the winnings Ceiling on the winnings
The one at 35 times 100 None 5x the bonus
First of the two five-stage packages 100 40x €100 a batch
Second five-stage package 100 40x 5x the bonus
The one leading on 200 per cent 50 Not published Not published

Read column three before the second. A hundred spins whose winnings carry 40 times are worth less than fifty spins whose winnings carry nothing, whatever the two look like side by side on a landing page.

The last row is the harder case. Where a term is not published the cost cannot be worked out before an account is opened, and this press does not fill an empty cell with a figure borrowed from somewhere else. A package that prints no counter and no ceiling on its spins is a package whose spins have no price yet.

Spins also arrive on a timetable. Some offers hand out 25 of them daily over four days and give each batch a single day of life. Another allows one day for switching a batch on and three more for spending it. Those clocks decide whether the spins are played at all.

03

One welcome to an account, so the deposit is the only figure you choose

€20 or £20 is the usual floor on offers of this kind, and it applies again at each later stage of the package. Within that, the amount is yours to set, and it is the single number a reader actually decides at the welcome stage.

No rule sets that floor. No licence condition and no technical standard puts a minimum on a deposit at all, so floors of £1, £5 and £20 are commercial choices a cashier makes, on the licensed side of the comparison as well. What is regulated is the telling: a deposit requirement is a significant condition and has to be stated where leaving it out would mislead, and the regulator’s own advice to players is to look for any spend required before a bonus is paid.

Doubling the deposit doubles the cash, the obligation and the cost of serving it, and leaves the price of a surviving pound exactly where it was. The spins do not move at all: 100 of them come with the first payment whether €20 or €200 goes in, so a bigger deposit dilutes the only part of the package paying clean.

That is the practical reading of the hero figure. €9.60 is what the spins are expected to return on any qualifying deposit, so the smaller the deposit the larger a share of the package that figure represents.

04

A deposit figure is read by more than the promotions desk

Net deposits above £150 in a single month set off a light-touch financial check wherever a British licence applies. The figure was £500 until 28 February 2025. The check runs on data already in the public domain, puts no question to the customer, and has no effect on a credit file.

Two bars showing the net monthly deposit above which a light-touch financial check applies at a British-licensed cashier: five hundred pounds from the end of August 2024, and one hundred and fifty pounds from the end of February 2025.
Where the licensed threshold sits. Net deposits in one month, above which a light-touch check runs. The figure fell by £350 inside six months. Fifteen deposits of £10 reach the lower line and one payment of £160 passes it. The separate enhanced assessments that drew most of the argument are a pilot, have never gone live and have affected no consumer. Source: the Commission’s rules on financial vulnerability checks, read 13 October 2026.

Four stages of a five-stage package at the £20 floor is £80 in a month. Five stages is £100. Taking a package to its advertised total would pass the threshold many times over at any cashier bound by it, which is the point of setting the figure beside the offer rather than in a different part of the site.

None of that runs at an offer of this kind. The threshold belongs to the licence, as does the duty to put a financial limit in front of every customer at the earliest point, with any cut to that limit taking effect at once.

05

One clause can make the whole package unpriceable

£170,000 changed hands in July 2025 when a licensee was penalised over a term in its new-customer bonus rules: the right, at its own discretion, to close accounts or take winnings away. The regulator’s objection was to the lack of transparency in such a term and to the unfair outcomes it can produce for consumers. An independent audit of that operator’s controls came with the money.

Search the terms for the word discretion before any money moves. A clause that settles the outcome after the event cannot be costed before it, and it makes every figure above it provisional, including the €9.60.

Machinery sits behind that penalty on the licensed side. The terms of an incentive have to be fair, transparent and easy for any customer offered it to reach. A licensee has to be able to produce evidence, if asked for it, of the work it did before deciding its terms were fair. Neither duty crosses the edge of the licence.

Where a licensed welcome goes wrong the clocks are fixed. Six months at the least for raising it, eight weeks at the most for the whole process from the day it arrived, and a final letter that has to point at an independent dispute body. A dispute at an unlicensed cashier has no such address. On its own consumer page the Commission says it is not an ombudsman, which is true of the cashiers it licenses; over the rest it holds no powers whatever.

06

What the welcome would look like with a British licence behind it

Three figures change and one does not. The multiple falls from 35 to ten, the obligation on the cash half falls from €1,050.00 to €300.00, and €18.00 of the credit is expected to survive instead of none. The spins, already clean at this cashier, are unaffected.

Everything else that changes is not a number. Membership of the national self-exclusion scheme rides on the licence, so a registration closes a licensed cashier and leaves an unlicensed one standing. Age and identity are established first at a licensed site, with the duty reaching play funded by a bonus and the free-to-play versions too, instead of waiting for the first withdrawal.

That last difference is the one a welcome bonus brings forward. Offers of this kind ask for documents before the first withdrawal. Money can therefore arrive on a headline and sit in the account until identity is settled, which inverts the licensed order.

A free spin at a British-licensed cashier is almost always fixed at 10p, sometimes 20p and occasionally 5p, which is a pattern in what the market does rather than a rule anybody enforces. Spins of this kind are fixed at €0.10 by their own terms, which is the same order of size and the reason the hero figure is close to ten euros rather than to one or to a hundred.

What a reader gives up is worth naming in full: no ten-times ceiling, no self-exclusion scheme covering the account, no British complaints body to escalate to, and a regulator with no power to act on what happens next. Each of those absences is taken apart in the guides at outside the licence.

07

The whole first payment, both halves, worked through

Eight lines. The first four price the cash, the next three price the spins, and the last adds them. The deposit itself is not in the sum, because a deposit is not part of a bonus and the two are shown apart.

A first payment of €20 at 150 per cent, with 100 spins

  1. Cash credited on the first payment €20.00 × 1.5 = €30.00
  2. Staking owed on it, 35 times over €30.00 × 35 = €1,050.00
  3. Cost of that staking at a payback of 96 per cent €1,050.00 × 0.04 = €42.00
  4. Cash expected to survive the counter €30.00 − €42.00 = nothing
  5. Spins handed over, 100 at €0.10 each 100 × €0.10 = €10.00
  6. Expected back from those stakes €10.00 × 0.96 = €9.60
  7. Staking owed on the spin winnings here €9.60 × 0 = €0.00
  8. Expected to remain from the whole first payment €9.60

The same eight lines under a British licence change two of them: line two becomes €300.00, line three €12.00, and €18.00 of cash survives at a cost of 67p for each euro of it. Three terms sit outside the sum and all three cut it. Five times the bonus is the most the cash half may turn into. A fourteen-day window has to hold the whole €1,050.00. A maximum bet of €5 limits how fast that can be put through. The spin figure is an average over many spins and says nothing about any batch of a hundred.

08

Questions about a welcome package

What is a casino welcome bonus actually worth on these sites?
The spins are worth €9.60 in expectation where their winnings are paid without staking, and the cash half is expected to be worth nothing. Thirty-five times €30.00 is €1,050.00 of play, and with 96 per cent coming back that play costs €42.00 against credit of €30.00. Under a British licence the cash half would leave €18.00.
Which half of a welcome package should I read first?
The counter on the spin winnings. Some offers pay them clean, most apply 40 times to them, and some publish nothing about them at all. A hundred spins carrying a counter are worth less than fifty that do not, whatever the two headlines look like beside each other.
Does a bigger first deposit improve a welcome offer?
Not per pound. The cash, the obligation and the cost all scale together, so a surviving pound costs the same at any deposit size. The spins do not scale at all: a hundred come with the first payment whatever goes in, so a larger deposit shrinks their share of the package.
Is there a minimum deposit for a welcome bonus?
Offers of this kind set one at €20 or £20, and it applies again at each later stage. No rule requires that. Not one licence condition and not one technical standard puts a minimum on a deposit, so the figure is a commercial choice that has to be printed rather than a regulated threshold.
When does the identity check happen at these cashiers?
Before the first withdrawal in every case, which is the reverse of the licensed order. A British-licensed site establishes name, address and date of birth first, and that duty reaches play funded by a bonus and the free-to-play versions as well. Money can therefore go in here on a headline and wait for documents on the way out.
Can a welcome offer be taken back after the terms are met?
Look for the word discretion in the terms. In July 2025 a licensee was penalised £170,000 over a clause reserving the right to close accounts or take winnings away at its own discretion, and an independent audit of its controls came with the money. A term settled after the event cannot be costed before it.
Will a welcome-sized deposit trigger a financial check?
At a British-licensed cashier, net deposits over £150 inside one month bring a light-touch check. That figure replaced £500 on 28 February 2025. The check reads data already in the public domain, puts no question to the account holder and has no effect on a credit file. The enhanced assessments that drew most of the argument remain a pilot and have touched no consumer.
What protection is missing at offers of this kind?
Four things, and they are worth naming. No ten-times ceiling binds the staking, no national self-exclusion scheme covers the account, no British complaints body will take a dispute, and no regulator can act on the outcome. Those absences are what the licensed side of that strip puts a number on.
